DIRECTORS

Henriette Stierlinisan anthropologist, with a PhD in History. She worked with indigenous groups in development projects, ethnological investigations and audiovisual productions. 

Claudia Hegglin studied Sociology, Political Sciences and Environmental Sciences and worked several years in field environmental education. She teaches courses in the domain of sustainability and science communication.

STORY

In all human cultures people have always been asking themselves: where do we come from and where are we going? The indigenous group of the Urus is experiencing its own demise. Settled on the Andean plateau on 4000 m a.s.l. in Bolivia, the Urus struggle with threatening environmental changes.

DIRECTOR

Léa Klaue is a PhD candidate in Social Anthropology at the University of Bern and in the research project Research Video at Zurich University of the Arts. For her PhD project, she produces a series of short documentary and fiction films produced in collaboration with Bolivian child workers. 

STORY

This video essay introduces Ruth, a 16-year old Bolivian, passionate soccer player and shoe shiner. An anthropologist who researches child labour enters her life. The dialogue between the two narrates and questions the anthropological experience and provides a glimpse into the realities of the lives of Bolivian youth.

Lukas J. Kandleris an anaesthetist at the University Hospital Zurich. He is also engaged in filmmaking. Currently, he is publishing a series of patient information videos, transferring his experience from pure education to the reinvention of the informed consent process for patients. 

Moró Corchia is a filmmaker and musician. His filmography includes “Birdsnest” (2018-2019), “Summerlove”, “Guilty”(both 2018 at the ZFF72).

STORY

How should a hospital react if not everyone shows up for the annual Influenza vaccination? We have produced a special short-film to focus the public attention on this important subject. Follow our two boys, Julius and Vincent, on how they deal with the call for vaccination. Julius and Vincent will take you to the hospital.

Cengiz Akandil is a Masters student at the University of Zurich studying Environmental Sciences. He is currently working on landscape changes in the Arctic. He is also a musician, producing film music and live performances with his band.

STORY

Some say we are very close to a tipping point that even if we stop all fossil fuel emissions it might be too late to avoid a climate catastrophe. Permafrost in Arctic is thawing much faster than expected.

ARTIFICIAL US contains three short films about a potential future with artificial intelligence. The stories are based on scientific facts and current happenings around the world, and speculate on themes of our daily life: relationship, consumption and health.

Barbara Vonarburg After studying Physics at ETH Zurich, she worked for many years as a science journalist for different newspapers, magazines and TV. She was head of the science department at the newspaper Tages-Anzeigerand producer of the science program “nano” for the TV station 3sat. Now she is conducting outreach work for the National Centre of Competence in Research (NCCR) PlanetS.

STORY

The first experiment that was placed on the Moon by the Apollo 11 astronauts was developed and built at the University of Bern. Today, some of the researchers remember the exciting day 50 years ago. Old film footage found in the archive of the Bern Physics Institute shows how the experiment was tested.

Jonathan Stauffer has studied German and Archeology. He taught himself animation and launched a YouTube channel in this field. Currently, he is creating educational videos for the University of Bern.

STORY

Each year, insect pests consume enough crops to feed 600 million people. Taking the Western Corn Rootworm as an example, in this interactive video viewers can discover which strategies are in place to control insect pests.

Corina Schwingruber Ilić lives and works in Lucernand Belgrade. In 2004-06 she attended the University of Fine Art in Basel and Academy of Fine Arts in Belgrade. Since 2010, she works as a filmmaker and editor. In 2017, she co-founded PRO SHORT (Short Film Association Switzerland).

STORY

A workout on the sun deck, a conga line in the dining hall, a photo shoot with the captain, or a beauty contest for all ages: fun around-the-clock is guaranteed on a cruise, while you float along with your hotel room. The sea-faring holiday fortresses have come into vogue and business is booming. In the towering ship's wake, we are left behind with a hoard of digital memories.
