GLOBAL ECO FILM FESTIVAL

is the Swiss international showcase of films with Science (all disciplines), Environment and/or Nature  focuses

CONCEPTUALIZATION & ORGANIZATION

Life Science Zurich (University & ETH Zurich) and Eco Film Assoc.

Mission

The Global Eco Film Festival (GEFF) is the Swiss international showcase of films with science (all disciplines), environment and/or nature  focuses.

The GEFF aims to advance public understanding of science and ecology through the power of film, and it serves as a networking platform for international scientists, ecologists, filmmakers, producers and broadcasting commissioners, with representatives from commerce and politics.

This GEFF presents documentary and fiction films (all lengths). All screenings are free, and all are open to the public.

Together with the annual film festival, year-round events and educational programs will take place.

Why GEFF?

Scientists (all disciplines) and ecologists study and protect the environment and nature in which we live, while filmmakers interpret and expose these knowledge and expertise to society. Unfortunately, there is a gap between scientists and ecologists on the one side and filmmakers on the other side. Ideally, (i) scientists and ecologists should benefit from the inspirational, educational, and motivational power of films to communicate their knowledge and expertise, and (ii) filmmakers should be able to accurately interpret and expose the scientific and ecological issues with solid background knowledge.

GLOBAL ECO FILM FESTIVAL

promotes a high-level dialogue and networking between scientists, ecologists and filmmakers

Goals

  • Promote networking between scientists (all disciplines) and ecologists on the one side and filmmakers on the other side.

  • Train and encourage scientists and naturalists to produce their own films by offering workshops and master classes. Aiming to change the way that scientists and naturalistse communicate their studies, making them more accessible and better comprehensible to a wide audience.

  • Give new talented filmmakers with scientific and naturalist focuses an opportunity to present their products.

  • Offer cinema fans new filmography unavailable at local cinemas.

  • Raise awareness of the most important scientific and naturalist issues, and the way in which these are exposed in films.
